At Green AI Day in Stuttgart on 25 September 2025, Benjamin Berger gave the talk “Document analysis & contract negotiation with AI support”.

He began with the situation in many public authorities: a small number of caseworkers face a large volume of applications. When experienced colleagues move on or retire, knowledge is lost. For applicants, this can mean long waiting times.

He then turned to the practical hurdles. Submitted documents arrive in a wide range of formats and layouts. Combinable service modules produce many variants of the same contract. And the texts switch between everyday language and legal terminology.

He presented the approach using formal review as an example. Kontrakte.AI compares submitted texts with model texts, detects placeholders that have not been filled in and wording that appears on a negative list, and draws on assessments of similar texts. Decisions from earlier reviews are retained as shared knowledge within the organisation, even when people change roles. On this basis, review and negotiation can be accelerated, with up to 75% less review time per contract.

The roles remain clearly divided: the AI pre-checks, people decide. Every finding points to its source in the document.

You can find out how the pre-check works under Check. How both parties then work on a contract together is shown under Negotiate.
